Question: Why does solving problems benefit your work?

Essentially my work is all about solving problems! Often of the form “is there a better way to do this?”

Since I spend most of my time doing maths it’s usually “can I make this simpler?” For example:

10 – 9 + 5 + 4 – 5

is the same as

10 – 5

but the second is a much simpler way of writing the sum!
