At the moment, I am working on two main things. One of them involves making sure our particle detectors in ATLAS at the LHC are working properly. The other involves looking for evidence of brand new physics in the particle interactions we see using the ATLAS detector. Doing all of this will probably take a while and I don’t actually know exactly what I will study next! That’s one of the exciting parts about being a scientist – you don’t always know what the future will bring! For example, if we manage to find new physics where we are looking, this will be crazy and super exciting and then we will study this even more. However, if we don’t find new physics, we will continue searching somewhere else until we do find it 😉

Next up, I think I’d be interested in moving to the health/medical field 🙂 There are many concepts and skills I’ve learnt from physics that can be applicable in these areas. For example, part of my undergrad project involved calculating the blood flow in the human brain, and magnetic resonance imaging. These all have base physics concepts!

It’s a good question because we have to constantly learn new things. I will learn more about particle physics and cosmology and also about numerical methods. What is nice is that our skills can give us access to other fields. For example, I have already worked in aerodyramics or genetics. The secret is really to be good at maths and programming.
