Firstly, don’t get discouraged. Learning something new is difficult and learning it well takes a long time. Sometimes it is possible to get good grades without really understanding something and, of course, sometimes getting good means you’ve got it. Secondly, it has been known for centuries that one-on-one teaching is the most effective way to teach. So my advice is create a small study group of classmates with at least one classmate who is getting good grades and at least two who need some help. An work together. Teach each other. You might wonder why a classmate who gets top marks would bother to help. You can tell her or him, from me, that the best way to deepen understanding of any topic is to try to explain it to someone else. When I find myself struggling to explain something, my honest self assessment is that I don’t understand the topic well enough to explain it. So try to persuade a classmate or two who are getting good grades to join your study group. What will you get out of this? You will get someone in your age group who has “got it” and therefore might be able to explain what it was that “clicked”.
