I was in school from age 6 to 18 and from age 18 to 24 in university, so roughly you need a minimum of twenty years of schooling. But that is just the minimum! It takes another several years, say when you get to your early thirties, before you will really hit your stride. But, it is worth it!!!!

In career and personal life, I’d say at the age of 40.

Take a breath if it looks too far: it’s quite the opposite and nothing to be scared of. Enjoy the journey and don’t aim at the goal in itself, as this brings along fun and wonderful experiences!

      (1) It is likely that you attend school up to 18.

      (2) Now you are aware of your strengths and interests. Do you head straight to a job or pass through the university? Scientists (= future chemists, engineers, physicists etc.) obtain a university degree of 4-5 years. A bit later for medical doctors.

      (3) Now you know the basics of a wide subject and can aim at, say, industry or enter research in university. For the second opinion, scientists obtain a doctoral/PhD degree (in chemistry, engineering, physics etc.) after 3-4 years of specific studies and keep working for being hired as professors. Similarly, in other sectors you have to turn your knowledge into some job objectives and show to reach them. The same goes for any job or passion: it’s time to get something out of what you learned.

      (4) You’re now in your early 30s and maybe want a family and grow up in the workplace. It’s easy to score 40 years.

I don’t know if anyone ever does reach their full potential – this might sound pessimistic but I don’t mean it to be! I think that there is always more that you can achieve and more that you can do. You could be an amazing scientist, artist, or whatever you want to be by the time you have left school but that doesn’t mean you should stop there! Keep exploring new places and trying new things. I never thought I would have achieved some of the things that I have already managed in my life but it has just made me want to go on and do even more cool things!

Biologically speaking, your brain reaches full size when you’re 12, and keeps making new brain cells pretty much until you die. What this tells you is that throughout your whole life (literally from birth until death) you have constant potential to learn more. “Full potential” varies from person to person – so I guess it depends on what you want to achieve!

Perhaps it’s not about reaching about our full potential but simply about doing well something that makes us happy. There are lots of things to learn and you will learn during all of you lives. It’s true that, at some stage, you will start to become more comfortable and insightful but there will always be tons of new things to learn.
