I didn’t study in the UK, so didn’t come across this exam.
Anyway, I can tell that math is very important for any science, as it is the language spoken here. An above average grade makes you feel confident to handle formulas and equations properly, as much as spelling and grammar make you speak and write fluently without too much thinking. Then it’s also a matter of content, as also what we say plays a role. For this, try hard to feel comfortable with the main scientific (or not) subjects and aim at the best school that allows you to reach your goal.

If memory serves me correctly, it was a mixed bag, with an average around a A-/B+, I think.
