If I had to switch jobs, I would become a researcher in artificial intelligence in part to help ensure that this amazing new technology is used for good.

If I could stay in science research, I would probably be a medical physicist working on new ways of imaging and treating cancer. I spent a year working on modelling a proton therapy beam that has now been built in Manchester to treat cancer patients and it was really rewarding work. It is sometimes difficult to connect physics research to immediate benefits in the real-world but cancer research and treatment is something I think we can all agree is worthwhile!
      .
If I had to leave physics, I would probably work as a software developer for a company – this involves writing computer code to solve problems and create new technology.

I’d try to recycle my expertise with computer programming or handling large numerical data for some company. There are many job opportunities that don’t come into our mind but are possible with a scientific background.

In that case, I would like to be a photographer.

If I could do any job I’d love to work with dogs – training them or just looking after them! However this isn’t necessarily an option money-wise…

Once I finish my PhD I’m thinking of working as a software developer (writing computer code) as I really enjoy writing code 🙂
